Season of Champions
Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents of the following teams who have worked very diligently this season and have been rewarded with a championship this spring:

North Saskatchewan Female Hockey League Champions

Comets – Female Midget AA - Coaches: Ron McLean and Dave Westbury

Congratulations to the Comets team that won the North Saskatchewan Female Hockey League Championship on Saturday, March 20 with a two game sweep of West Central in the best of three final series. The Comets won every game in the NSFHL regular season and continued the winning streak right through the league playoffs.
The team will try to add to their hardware take this week when they take on Regina on the road in the Midget AA Provincial Final game on Wednesday, March 24th. Regina tied the Comets 1-1 on Sunday, March 21st in Saskatoon in the first game of the two game total-goal SHA Provincial final. The tie was the first “blemish” on the season for the Midget AA Comets.

SHA Provincial Champions

Saskatoon Thunder – Peewee AA Tier I - Head Coach: Dale Lambert

The Thunder followed up their SMHA City Championship with the Provincial Peewee Tier I Championship by defeating Moose Mountain 9 – 4 in the two game total-goal provincial final.
Moose Mountain took game 1 in Saskatoon on March 26th by the score of 4-3. The Thunder scored with 58 seconds left in that game to close the gap to one in give them momentum going into game 2 of the series. The Thunder used that momentum very well, cruising to a 6-0 victory in game 2 in Carlyle, Saskatchewan.

Redwing Jackals – Peewee AA Tier II - Head Coach: Vance Jones

The Redwing Jackals defeated the Regina Wild 8-7 in the two game total-goal SHA Provincial Final. The Jackals went into Regina last week and won 3-1 to come home with a two goal lead.
On March 29th at Harold Latrace Arena, the Redwing Jackals and the Regina Wild came right down to the wire as Regina won game two by a score of 6-5. This is the second straight season that a Saskatoon team has won the Peewee Tier II Provincial Championship.
Way to go Jackals!

Saskatoon Frostbite – Bantam AA Tier I - Coaches: Roger Kortko and Merv Oleksyn

The Frostbite made an incredible comeback this past weekend to win the Bantam AA Tier I championship. After losing 10 – 5 in Lumsden on Friday night, it appeared that the Saskatoon squad’s chances of being provincial champions were slim at best. Buoyed by a never say die attitude, the Frostbite won game two of the two game total-goal series 7 – 1 to take the final by one goal. The Frostbite scored with 19 seconds remaining to win it all before overtime was required.
The Frostbite will represent Saskatchewan at the 2010 Western Canadian Bantam Championship in Burnaby, BC. Burnaby Winter Club will host the 2010 Western Bantam AA Tier I Championship April 8-11, 2010 at the Bill Copeland Arena.

Comets – Female Midget AA - Coaches: Ron McLean and Dave Westbury

The Comets capped off an undefeated season defeating Regina by a score of 4 - 3 in double OT on Wednesday, March 24th in Regina to capture the Provincial Female Midget AA Championship. The two teams had played to a 1 - 1 tie in the first game of the two game total-goal SHA Provincial final.
After jumping out to an early 2 goal lead, the teams were tied at 2 after the first. Regina took the lead by one goal in the second which stood up until the Comets were able to tie the game with just 28 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime. After a scoreless first OT period, the Comets scored 1:45 minutes into the second OT to win the game and the championship.
Congratulations Comets!
