SHA Sask First Program - An Opportunity
It's that time of year again for the province's Bantam and Midget aged male players. Sask First tryouts begin in February. The Sask First camps are a great opportunity to work out with and against your peers and challenge for one of 20 positions on your zone team. While it is definitely an honor to make your zone team, please keep in mind that it is not the be all and end all for a player's hockey development.

Below are some real life examples of kids that went to Sask First in their day:
  • Chris Kunitz - Did not make his zone team.
  • Travis Moen - Made his zone team but did not get selected to the top 40.
  • Ryan Getzlaf - Made his zone team and made Team West in 2002.

The common denominator about these three young NHL players is that they were all members of the 06-07 Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks. As you can see, they all took different routes to make it to the NHL but they kept working hard no matter what happened along the way.

We wish all Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association players the best of luck in their tryouts!
